The Senate HELP Committee agreed by voice vote that clinical trials expert Robert Califf should be the next FDA commissioner, although one senator says she still intends to block his nomination on the floor pending release of a guidance on genetically engineered salmon labeling. Meanwhile, Committee Chairman Lamar Alexander wants to tackle a medical innovation bill in 2016, even though it is an election year.
